Tai-Hao releases keyboard that doubles as voice conferencing device

Computer keyboard maker Taiwan Tai-Hao Enterprise Co. Ltd started out making PVC pipes and other plastic products in 1962. The company then focused on manufacturing keyboard keycaps and keyswitches. In 1980, it ventured into computer keyboard production and began its overseas business. Currently, Tai-Hao has expanded to computer and security products, including fingerprint readers, smart card readers, multifunction kiosks, RF and optical mice, portable media players (PMP), MP3 players, USB flash drives and Bluetooth products such as headsets, mice, keyboards and USB dongles.
Global Sources Computer Products interviewed sales manager Sophie Chen to discuss the company's participation in CeBIT and plans for the rest of the year.
What did Tai-Hao achieve by attending this year's CeBIT?
We went to the event to meet potential as well as old buyers. We have also successfully showcased our latest products.
Tell us more about the new products that were showcased.
One of the new products is a Skype-compatible computer keyboard with built-in hot keys that enable users to pick up VoIP calls at a touch of button. It also has a four-direction button that scrolls pages down, up, left and right. It also features a hot key that allows users to change and select their online status.
Which are your main export markets?
Europe, North America and South America are our main export markets. We also ship a small percentage of our output to Japan, Asia and the Middle East.
What kind of after-sales support do you provide your overseas buyers?
We offer a two-year warranty on all our products. For returned items, we provide replacements if items are returned to us within 30 days from delivery. We repair and send back returned items if these are surrendered to us beyond the 30-day period from delivery.
Are your products RoHS-compliant?
Yes, we have already applied for the RoHS certificate in April 2006.
What is your annual R&D budget and how is this being allocated?
We invest an equivalent of 5 percent of the company's annual sales in R&D to purchase new equipment and hire additional R&D staff. Currently, we have about 20 members in the R&D team.
Please tell us about the other products that Tai-Hao will release in 2006?
We will be releasing a Bluetooth laser mouse and an MP3 player, which features a 1.5in OLED screen.
What are your expansion plans in 2006?
We have established a new production line to manufacture USB DVB-T receivers.
Taiwan – The F21-KP flash MP3 player from Taiwan Tai-Hao Enterprise Co. Ltd incorporates a USB flash drive that supports up to 1GB of storage capacity. It comes with a USB 2.0 interface and sports misty rose, light cyan, orange-red, steelblue, white and black casings.
The device features built-in email program, optional FM radio tuner and voice recording functions. Taiwan – The F21-M65 from Taiwan Tai-Hao Enterprise Co. Ltd is a compact video and audio player with 1.1in color display, voice recording capability and built-in e-book reader. It plays MP1, MP2, MP3, WMV, WAV, ASF and WMA music files with ID3 tags and AMV movie files.

Taiwan Tai-Hao Enterprise's F21-KC (smart card reader keyboard) is one of the most compact IT-security devices around. The presentation of F21-KC is a milestone of Tai-Hao's entering IT-industry. Supporting either RS232 or USB connection interface, F21-KC fulfils the smart card standard of PC/SC and the communication protocol of ISO 7816-3 (T=0/T=1).
The F21-KC is provided with the logon manager application, the software utility is specifically designed for Personal Computer (PC) logon. Instead of depending on the application of passwords as the exclusive means of logon, the logon manager application enables users to logon by both inserting his/her token (i.e. smart card) and typing passwords simultaneously, conveniently and securely. Though the merit of applying password security is cost effective, but there exists one fatal disadvantage of using passwords, that is fragile to be stolen and hacked by hackers, whereas the combination of smart card and passwords would not allow these shortcomings exist. Even someone got your passwords, without your token (your smart card), he/she is still not eligible to gain access to your PC, data base or the domain server.
